An Introduction From Susan McDougall
God's grace and peace to you!
My name is Susan McDougall, a candidate for ordination from the Presbytery of San Jose, CA, and God willing, the next stated supply pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of Waukesha. While we prayerfully await the next meeting of the Presbytery of Milwaukee, we thought that visitors to our website might wonder why a California girl is willing to brave the winters of Wisconsin. Well, I had several interviews with churches across the country, but the dedication and commitment of the Elders of this church caught my attention. They also have a great sense of humor. Because Skype wasn’t working properly, I spent the whole interview looking at them sideways! I was delighted when the Session invited me to preach in January, and after a month of traveling all over during the Christmas season, my jet-lagged self landed in Wisconsin.
The moment I walked in the door, the warmth and caring of the people who attend the First Presbyterian Church of Waukesha touched my heart. From the person who is responsible for the building itself, to the long time members who sat with me at the Soup Cook-Off after the service, these wonderful people impressed me with their love for this heritage church and their love for one another.
I was married in the same church in which I was baptized in Canada. I served in a variety of capacities at our 1st church there, as well as in three states here in the US; but I immediately felt at home when I was offered the position here. I did ask for a week to put the matter before God in prayer, but a mere three days later I awoke feeling completely at peace with the idea of serving at the First Presbyterian Church of Waukesha. Little things, like my husband’s company just a week ago announcing that it was moving his division to Rockford, IL, a few hours drive from Waukesha, have since confirmed for me that God's hand is in this process.

Susan McDougall was baptized and married at her grandmother's church, Central Presbyterian Church, in Hamilton, Canada. She has been a member of and served in leadership in churches in Oakville, Canada, Midland, MI, Vancouver, WA and Los Gatos, CA. She received her BA from the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada, her law degree from Queen's University in Kingston Canada, and her Masters of Divinity from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. She and her husband David have four children and three grandchildren. They live in San Jose, CA. Fun fact: Susan played hockey in law school and coached her son's hockey team.
